VARCOE - Oil Bath Direct Action Mill
The use of two heavily constructed eccentrics connected to a cross-head and guide gives this head a very smooth and well-balanced action.
The pumping stroke of 2 3/8" (60mm) with this mill's easy well-balanced action, keeps it operating in the very lightest breeze. By completely enclosing the head, damage from weather and dust has been minimized.
Positive lubrication and larger than usual bearings makes this a long-wearing and trouble-free mill.

120 Strokes per minute are obtained on a D/A mill in wind speeds of 13-16kmph.
It is important to note that on a shallow bore a direct acting mill will pump nearly twice as much as a geared mill. This is because of the much higher pump speed of a direct drive head in low load conditions.
TOTAL HEAD USING A 2 1/2" PUMP
A 6ft [1.83m] wheel on a direct drive head will pump from up to a total head of up to a 40ft (12.2m) total head.
A 7ft. (2.13m) wheel on a direct drive head will pump water from up to a 60ft (18.2m) total head.
